If Two People Are Meant To Be Together, Eventually They’ll Find Their Way Back

Yesterday, I read this beautifully written article on Huffington post. You can read it here. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve loved and lost, but the thing that I identified with most from the article is how truly loving someone changes you. I recently let go of someone I love and it was liberating.

Loving him hasn’t changed, but the fact that he doesn’t love me sunk in and I’m totally okay with that. Its taken a few years to get to this point, but I made a realisation that I do not require someone to love me for me to love them. Its quite a liberating feeling.

And I wouldn’t say that I’m waiting or pining away for him either. In fact, I’ve not prayed for his return in my life, or anything like that. I don’t need anything from the people I love because I provide everything I need myself.

Life is this funny thing that really does get better with age.

Enough ramblings. Have a wonderful day from me.

Daily Inspiration: a new closet

I recently moved into my own place, and seeing that I’ve designated 2017 to building the life of my dreams, that definitely includes a custom-made walk-in closet. I’m converting my second bedroom into a walk-in closet/ office/ boudoir and I thought I’d share someone of the stunning examples I’ve found…

As soon as I’m done, I’ll definitely post the finished product, but until then…

Enjoy!

A favourite poem…

Invictus by William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
      For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Daily Inspiration: Daily Prints in Fashion

It’s rare these days for me to find a blog that I just click with. I find that in an attempt to stand out, most blogs that I come across are strikingly generic, but I was pleasantly surprised by the refreshingly quirky and informative posts on Daily Prints in Fashion.

My current personal favourite is her post ‘My Favourite Hangouts in Accra‘, which brought some really cool gems to my attention. Badly needed since I’ve been away PhD-hustling for the last 3 years or so.

Not to give too much away – because its definitely worth checking out yourself – I’m just going to sign off here and go check out her online Afro-centric shop, africaboutik.

Enjoy!

Daily Inspiration: The Amazing Power of Vulnerability

Anyone that knows me, knows I don’t like feeling vulnerable. That said, I’m always up for a challenge and 2016 is a year for firsts. I’ve started to embrace being vulnerable, and dare I say it, even have begun to enjoy it. There is a quiet strength to be found in vulnerability and I, for one, am all for becoming stronger.

The TED Talk below is by Brene Brown and she discussed the nature of the human connection and our ability to empathise, love and be loved, and our ability to feel like we ‘belong’. A funny talk based on her own research. Worth it.

Enjoy!
